Kat Castañeda MSW, LICSW, ACC

Right Here with You

I partner with you as you develop the insight and skills necessary to live out your desired life. By creating space to fully explore the burdens you carry, along with your existing strengths and hopes, together we build your capacity to nurture greater well-being and self-compassion.

Approach

I am a clinical social worker as well as a certified coach through the International Coaching Federation. My practice is anchored in cultural humility, mindfulness-based and anti-oppressive practices, trauma-informed engagement and life coaching.  In my private practice, I offer both therapy and coaching.  During the intake process, I describe the distinctions between each modality and together we determine what feels like the best match for you. Through my life experiences and two decades working in the mental health field, I have come to understand that there are many ways to change and grow, and that the process is  seldom linear. I believe that along with joy and delight, suffering is a reality of life, and that it can lead to meaningful growth in the presence of consistent and supportive relationships.

Navigating major mental illness throughout my 20’s forced me to contend with systems that do not center the humanity of the people they serve. These lived experiences fuel my commitment to center clients’ humanity, dignity, and strengths. I do not believe that pathology resides in people but in inequities and rigid social expectations. As a therapist and coach, I seek to provide the empathic support necessary for healing and transformation. I approach my work from a  relational, collaborative, and holistic stance.

Experience

I have had the privilege of working with youth, adults and families in a variety of settings: schools, child and family service agencies, community-based organizations, colleges and adult clinics. In addition to my private practice, through Kat Castañeda Consulting- I provide training and consultation to organizations seeking to reinvigorate staff self-determination and move towards greater accountability, interdependence, and authenticity in their collective work.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Oberlin College, a Master’s in Social Work from Simmons College and  I am an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credentialed through the International Coaching Federation.
